BorderMatch addresses this gap by providing a digital platform that matches students from different countries and guides them through structured, meaningful conversations. Instead of unstructured chats, the platform facilitates curated exchanges, encourages users to compare perspectives, and supports them in co-creating insights about their experiences. In doing so, it transforms one-off interactions into a repeatable and scalable system for cross-border dialogue.

The platform is designed for students aged 10 to 19, particularly those who are not already engaged in international or EU-focused programmes. This is important because existing opportunities often reach only highly motivated or privileged groups. By lowering the barrier to participation and focusing on relatable, everyday topics, BorderMatch makes cross-border engagement more accessible, continuous, and relevant. Strengthening these connections is essential for fostering a more cohesive Europe, where democratic participation is grounded in real understanding and cross-border friendships rather than assumptions.

A functional web platform has been developed, including a matching system and an initial user journey that enables cross-border conversations. Early testing has focused on validating core assumptions, particularly whether students are willing to engage with peers from other countries when the process is simple and accessible. Initial feedback indicates genuine interest, especially when interactions are framed around curiosity and comparison rather than formal or institutional dialogue.

The next phase is to evolve the platform from a basic matching tool into a structured engagement system.
